This is what kids are for... to help with dishes and laundry.
I hope they will still want to help when they're a little bit older!
For Cole's first day of school, we had cinnamon oatmeal pancakes with peanut butter, yogurt, and bananas. That's definitely a staple meal around here! Then Cole helped me pack his lunch for school in his awesome new lunch box that I am so in love with. It has two containers that stack on top of each other into his lunch box, so they are always right side up. They are also completely leak proof. One is divided into three sections, and the other is big enough for large half sandwich. Sometimes we will switch out one container for a small thermos that we will put leftovers, oatmeal, or something else warm in. Dale picked up a bunch of orange milk boxes from Gossner's Cheese for us, so he can take one of those or a cup for water.
Cole likes waiting outside for the bus to come. Luckily, it's still warm enough that I'm ok with that. Once it gets colder, he doesn't get to go out until he sees the bus turn the corner. He gave me strict instructions that I cannot walk him out to the bus, or even open the door. I am allowed to watch him from the window, though. The same goes for when he gets home; he likes to open the door and walk in all by himself.
When Cole was at school, Connor and I went to the mall. I needed some new pants, and didn't really know what else to do while he was gone. It was so much more relaxing with one child instead of two. They are both pretty well behaved, but seem to always be wandering in opposite directions.
Connor was so excited when the bus came to bring Cole back home. They both chased it around the corner after it left. When Connor tells Cole goodbye, he yells, "Bye Cole, I love you! I love you Cole! Bye!" It's pretty dang cute. :)
I got to watch Veta, Hazel, and Gemma while Jessica was at work. Hazel brought some sparkly water paints and set both my boys and Gemma up with their own cups of water and paper. This was Connor's first time painting, and he had lots of fun. He was pretty focused the whole time. Hazel made sure to change out their water whenever it got too dark.
After painting we went outside to play. They took turns blowing giant bubbles and playing on the slide. |
This month we found out we are having another baby! The second line is very light, but it is still there! This was the most perfect timing we could have asked for. I wanted all our kids to be the same amount of time apart, and having this baby in May will accomplish that.
We came home from Grandma's house and Connor laid down on the floor with his bum in the air, falling asleep shortly after. I love how he is holding on tight to that pudding!
Connor has been climbing on the counter when they are brushing their teeth. He can't get down by himself quite yet, so we are really trying to keep him from climbing up at all.
Dr. Carey, our geneticist, wanted us to get Cole's kidneys checked because kidney issues are fairly common with DiGeorge kids. He was perfect for his ultrasound. One kidney is dilated a little, and the other one has a lump. Or maybe it was the same one with a lump? I don't quite remember. We are going down to see a Urologist at PCMC in December to get him checked out a little more. He hasn't had any type of infections, which is a good sign, so hopefully everything is ok with them.
Suzanne spent the summer in Mexico, and brought back a bag of dried chilies to make some super hot salsa for Chris. She made it, hoping smoke would come out his ears when he ate it. She was disappointed that there wasn't more of a reaction, but he did love it! He is going to get the recipe from her to make some more.
When we go for walks, we generally stop at the canal in the back of the subdivision.
The boys will both find things along the way to throw in.
This was the first time we have used these umbrellas in the rain. We didn't need to go anywhere, Cole just wanted to use them so we headed out into the rain. Connor didn't want to get under one, but Cole loved it.
Connor has just recently started to like baths. Up until this point, most of them are really fast; throw him in, scrub him, pull him out. Now he will stay in and play with Cole for a while. He still hates water being dumped on his head. He hates the feeling of it going into his ears. I learned that during swimming lessons. :) The days he went under water, he would sleep terrible. I think it gave him nightmares.
Connor is so ridiculously sweet in the mornings. He usually wakes up between 7:15 and 7:45. He cries/yells until I come get him, then I bring him back to my bed. Sometimes he will go back to sleep, but normally he will just hang out for a few minutes until he gets bored or Chris or I move too much and he thinks we are getting up. There's no going back from that point! He tells me the funniest things in the mornings...
"Mom, I like your eyes. Take them out. I want hold them." "Mom, what's this? Your eyebrow? I like it. I pet it." "Mom, I see your hair in your nose." Pretty observant, huh! This morning, he tossed and turned for a bit with his eyes still closed. Then he puckered up and put his lips on my nose and just held them there for about ten seconds. Then he made a kissing noise, opened his eyes, and started laughing. Little things like that always start the mornings out right.
We went to the zoo with Kajsa, Adalyn, and Jensen.
The lion drinking fountain is always where the kids want to play the most.
When the boys get hungry right before bed, they only get fruit (usually bananas or apples) as an option, and if they need a drink, they only get water. They don't complain too much. :)
I love watching Cole when he is in gymnastics. It's so fun to watch him learn and try new things and watch how he interacts with his peers. I can't wait til they start doing flips and stuff! I think we are going to keep him in gymnastics until he starts to complain, which he hopefully never will.
Connor likes to wash his own hair now; the bubbles on his hands make him happy!
Cole usually helps a little, too.
Chris's grandparents had their 50th anniversary this year. Michelle asked if I would make them a cake, and of course I was happy to. This was a peanut butter/chocolate mixture. Turned out pretty good!
The Hokey Pokey is one of the favorite songs around here these days. My favorite part is "Put you belly in..." So cute!
Cole thought it was funny to put the hose in his mouth and have Connor turn the water on. Such nerds.
We watched Jensen and Adalyn for a couple hours, and Cole got Jensen laughing pretty hard.
Can't wait til this next baby comes!
