July 2015 - Camping with Greg and Michelle

This summer was the best. It was chuck full of ridiculously fun and new experiences for all of us. This camping trip was amazing. We went with Greg and Michelle, and Greg's daughter, Ashely, and her three kids. I was so grateful that Chris is always willing to haul the camper to wherever we need it to, even if he can't stay. I'm also grateful that we were able to borrow Greg and Michelle's extra camper.  It made things so much easier and less stressful.

We started off at a lake near their property in Montana. The boys loved playing in the water and exploring the trails around the lake. There were some pretty steep ones that they powered up, but then I had to help them one at a time to make it back down. It was gorgeous from every angle.

Michelle had lots of fun activities planned for us at the campsite. There were games for the kids, bubbles, bug catcher things with houses to keep them in, and even homemade ice cream along with a fire and marshmallows. The food is always delicious, too. Everyone played together really well.

I roasted a marshmallow and asked Connor to help Carson eat it. Apparently, to him, that meant to give him the whole thing at once. He made the biggest, stickiest mess,  but he enjoyed every minute. Cole and Connor prefer their marshmallows not cooked, but they enjoy cooking them for other people to eat.

Grandpa brought a bee bee gun for the kids to take turns shooting. They set up a pan to aim at so you could hear a 'ping' when you hit it. There were lots of four-wheeler rides around the field and up into the mountains. It was fun to watch how much Carson loved them. I had to put both my legs up on either side of him to keep him on.

This picture of Connor at the table in mid sentence is one of my favorites. It captures his story-telling personality really well. He had the most creative imagination, coming up with different stories and new words all the time. I love to listen to him.

Michelle drove us around to see all the sights around Island Park, including the cabin that her dad and grandpa built. They sold it a while back, and she hadn't been in it for a long time. When they sold it, they left everything inside. It was neat to see her so excited to see this cabin and all of the stuff left inside that was still there. I could tell she had a million memories from that place.

Greg brought his plane with him and took us all for rides for the first time. Every time he had brought it before, I was either pregnant or had a baby I couldn't leave very easily. I was happy that I was not as tied down this time! It was the most amazing experience. My favorite dreams are of my flying Mario style (run really REALLY fast and JUMP to take off) and this was the closest I will ever be able to get to that in real life. I loved feeling the wind, I loved looking straight at the scenery rather than through a window, and I loved when we did spirals. It is crazy how many little lakes there are up on top of the mountains around there, and there was the cutest little meadow as well that I'm hoping that Chris and I can hike to and have a picnic. He also took Cole and Connor up and around the field and over the trees. Neither of them were the least bit scared. I was proud!!

When Chris came to pick us up, he spent the day and did some shooting. I did a little bit, too. I forgot how fun it is! I love the set up Greg has for shooting. It is neat to watch Chris do something he loves so much, too. I wish he had more time to do it! And yes, I know my pants look ridiculous with tennis shoes. Chris made that very clear! :)
