We started Connor's birthday out with a bunch of balloons. Originally they were going to be in his room, but I got them all to the stairs and decided they would be exciting enough there, so we left them. He was fun to watch bust through them all on his way up. He wanted waffles for breakfast and then we worked on filling his pinata that I had made a while back. It fell down and broke as soon as I hung it up, so we just bagged his treats instead. I don't think I'll be doing anymore homemade pinatas!
Connor had his first friend birthday party this year. We set up pools and toys outside and just had cake. It took a while for the kids to be comfortable enough to go play, but it seemed like everyone had fun once they did. I had bought a face painting kit that we experimented with, too. After I discovered that my skills were seriously lacking, I had Hazel and Veta take over. I'm glad everyone was young enough that they weren't too particular! We served dirt cups and had a cake for Connor. When it was time to sing Happy Birthday, he got all shu and hid his face against a pole. I was surprised, especially because he is normally such a social and outgoing little boy! He wouldn't even eat any of his birthday cake until after everyone left. It was a fun day and I'm glad he has a good group of kids to hang out with!
